VoxBox: Celebrating Les Six

  • Recital Hall, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Birmingham (map)

As part of RBC's ever popular VoxBox Series, Tom co-curates and directs an evening of music celebrating the composers of Les Six alongside musicians from RBC.

Often called the French answer to Russia's Mighty Handful, Les Six were a group of kindred spirits united by their time at the Paris Conservatoire, where they traded ideas and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. It was Satie who later brought them together under his Nouveaux Jeunes recitals, giving each of them a stage on which their individual voices could emerge.

Each composer went on to follow their own path, with styles and careers that pulled in very different directions, but tonight brings their music back together into one vocal tapestry.

Programme to include:
Poulenc – La Bal Masqué
Durey – Chansons Basques
Honegger – Saluste du Bartas
And works by Tailleferre, Milhaud and Auric.

Conductor: Tom Hawkey-Soar
